Online Brokerage Services Deal Valued at $24 Million Over First Three Years
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 1998--As a part of its continuing
strategy to become a single-source provider of online financial services,
Freerealtime.com Inc. (OTC/BB:FRTI - news), a leading branded provider of
online quote services, Thursday announced that it has signed an agreement
with Cambridge, Mass.-based FarSight Financial Services LP, a member of the
D.E. Shaw & Co. group of companies, to have FarSight Financial LP provide
comprehensive brokerage services for its expanding membership. The deal has
projected revenue of $24 million over the first three years. Planned to
commence operation on Jan. 1, 1999, the new online brokerage service will
incorporate many innovative features not presently available to
Freerealtime.com customers, including real-time account updating and a fully
integrated offering of financial . |
| Even before the recent spate of slowdowns and system outages, most
online brokerages had been continually upgrading their networks to
handle the growing traffic. |
| One that comes to mind is the E*Trade ad, with a bunch of cool
yuppie-type individuals saying, were not relying on the government,
our pension, any inheritance, etc, because we trade online... The
ads seem to promote daytrading and online trading as the
foundation for most anyones financial future. Geesh, give me a
break. |

in late 1996 and early 1997, when the online network was swamped by new
members enticed by a new monthly plan featuring a flat rate and no time
limits for use. |
